About the Artist
Sam Scott has been creating great art in Santa Fe for fifty years. He began studying painting at age 10, had a one-person show in Rome when he was 23 and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Maryland Institute of Art. In 1969 he came to Santa Fe, and just five years later he was awarded the first living artist show at the New Mexico Fine Arts Museum. In 1997 the same museum gave him a thirty-year retrospective. He represented New Mexico at a Whitney Museum Biennial in New York City. The Harwood Museum in Taos had a retrospective of his work in 2010, and his paintings have been selected at a number of other American collections.
He was awarded the Peace Rose at the United Nations, and was a United States artist representative in Vietnam. Scott has taught at the University of Arizona, and was given an international fellowship in France. Sam Scott is a firm believer in the absolute necessity of free and independent public-supported radio, which informed his decision to offer his remarkable painting to support KSFR.
